WARRANTY

Insulating Glass Warranty

Builders Door and Window Supply warrants insulating glass units supplied by Builders Door and Window Supply, (as supplied to the original consumer) not to develop under normal conditions, material obstruction of vision resulting from film formation or dust collection on the inner glass surface caused by seal failure, for a period of ten years from the date of purchase (hereinafter to refer to Builders Door and Window original invoice date). Should such a failure of the air seal occur within the warranty period, the manufacturer will provide a replacement insulated glass unit delivered to the original delivery or pickup site. Builders Door and Window Supply or its authorized service agents will install the replacement insulated glass unit at no charge within a period of five years from the date of purchase, but will not accept responsibility for repainting, refinishing, or any related activity. After 5 years from the date of purchase the customer will be responsible for arranging the installation and the cost of installing the replacement glass unit. Builders Door and Window Supply reserves the right to limit labour costs for replacing sealed units in areas outside the Lower Mainland of Vancouver. This Warranty does not include cracked or broken glass resulting from accident, abusive handling or misuse or shattering due to heat build up. Specifically, the Warranty does not cover cracked sealed units, which can be attributed to the following:

• excessive internal heating causing direct heat to the glass area.

• movement or shifting of the building.

• polyethylene protective wrapping, either left on or applied causing heat build up.

• signs or objects of any nature applied against the glass causing cracking.

• painting of glass surfaces causing cracking.

• drapes hung too close to the sealed units. (Heating ducts must be placed on the outside of drapes to prevent heat build-up.)

Please note: It is recommended that the customer have glass insurance to cover glass breakage.

 

Insulating Glass Warranty By Others

Any windows and doors supplied by Builders Door and Window Supply, which include insulating glass units, or any specified glass product supplied by manufacturers other than those approved by Builders Door and Window will be subject to the warranty policy of the specific manufacturer who supplied those products.

 

Condensation

Condensation on windows and any related water damage, which may occur as a result of natural humidity within the building or changes in the exterior / interior temperatures, does not indicate a defect and is not included in this Warranty.

 

Wood Component Warranty

Builders Door and Window Supply warrants to the original customer the quality of workmanship and materials to be free from defects, which might render the product unserviceable, for a period of two years from the date of purchase. All products are to be inspected upon arrival and before installation and finishing. Texture and colour variations do not constitute defects in wood items, as the natural properties of wood are subject to colour and texture variation. To comply with this Warranty, it is the responsibility of the consumer to properly care for and protect all wood items against moisture and excessive dryness, and to ensure that all surfaces, interior and exterior, top and bottom of wood items are painted or sealed to accepted field finishing standards. Builders Door and Window Supply will, without charge, replace or repair any product that may be defective and will do so in the same state as originally supplied. Builders Door and Window Supply will not accept responsibility for repainting, refinishing, or any other necessary work to complete the replacement or repair of the product. The Warranty for wood defects does not cover warping unless the warp exceeds 5/16" in the plane of the sash or door and not in relation to the frame in which the sash or door is hung.  

 

Hardware

Builders Door and Window Supply uses Truth™ hardware in the manufacture of Builders Door and Window Supply windows. The warranty supplied by Truth™ is applicable to all products using Truth™ hardware. The Truth™ hardware warranty is available upon request. If alternative hardware is used the warranty provided by the original manufacturer is applicable.

  

Painting and Finishing

Builders Door and Window Supply warrants to the original consumer that all primer, paint and stain products are applied in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended application. After installation, and depending on the finishing specifications of the door and window original order, Builders Door and Window Supply recommends the application one to two coats of the final finish to be applied in accordance with the paint or stain manufacturers recommendations. It is the responsibility of the consumer to apply a final coat(s) to the product. Failure to administer the final coat(s) within 60 days of delivery renders the wood component warranty null and void.

  

Doors  

The warranties supplied by the various door suppliers of products not manufactured by Builders Door and Window Supply are available upon request. Door frames manufactured by Builders Door and Window Supply are covered by the Wood Components Warranty above.

 

Defects Not Covered By Warranty  

• texture and colour variations of wood (natural materials have variations due to environmental factors, differing rates of oxidization, etc.)

• warping of wood or doors that are less than 5/16" in the plane of sash or door itself

• normal weathering

• any defeat due to faulty or improper installation

• products not installed in a vertical plane

• damage caused by improper installation, use, or maintenance; minor scratches or imperfections in glass which do not impair structural integrity or significantly obscure normal vision

• damage caused by water leakage

• slight curvature of glass

• special glazing applications

• electric window operators

• damage caused by cleaning chemicals

 

Limitation of Liability

The above listed warranties are the only expressed warranties (whether written or oral) provided by Builders Door and Window Supply. No employee, representative or agent of the Company nor any other person has the authority to assume or incur on behalf of the Company any liability, obligation or responsibility in place of or in addition to these warranties.

 

Alternative Remedies

If repair or replacement is impractical, Builders Door and Window Supply, may elect to return the original purchase price of the window or door deemed to be defective, in full settlement of all claims related to the defective product whether the claim is for breach of warranty, or negligence, or otherwise.

 

Claim Procedure

To submit a warranty claim please do so in writing as follows:

• identify the product or glass involved and approximate date of purchase, contractors name (if applicable)

• describe in detail the claimed defect (please supply photographs if available)

• provide current address and phone number

• submit information to Builders Door and Window Supply.

Builders Door and Window Supply will investigate your claim within 60 days after notification and take appropriate action. Builders Door and Window Supply may charge an inspection fee for any on‑site inspection that is required or that is requested by the customer. If it is determined that the product or glass has a defect covered by this warranty, the inspection fee will be waived.
