PRODUCT FINISHING AND MAINTENANCE SPECIFICATIONSPRIME / PAINTPrimer = Cloverdale Paints speed primer – 15910 Top Coat = Cloverdale EcoLogic Semi-gloss White Water Borne Enamel 70623 (1coat standard) All products should be well protected from inclement weather, excessive heating and cooling, and humidity, prior to finishing and installation. Builders Door and Window paint grade products are normally shipped, unless otherwise specified, either primed only, (requiring a minimum of two top coats, and preferably 3, on all exposed surfaces prior to installation); or primed plus 1 or 2 top coats. All of Builders Door and Window paint finish products are applied with a spray finish. All primed and painted products must receive an additional onsite brush coat as soon as possible after installation. Failure to apply this finish coat within 6 weeks of delivery and/or installation may void Builders Door and Window Manufacturer’s Warranty. Builders Door and Window recommends Cloverdale EcoLogic water borne finish coat, which can be tinted to most paint suppliers’ colours. A paint manufacturer’s colour chip must accompany any colour matching required for production painting. Builders Door and Window makes no warranties as to exact colour match (different product bases and pigments will produce different results), but will attempt to come as close as possible to other manufacturer’s colours. It is strongly recommended that customer specified coatings be thoroughly researched as to their suitability before committing to their application. Dark and deep paint colours increase heat absorption, which may impact product longevity and performance, and may void Builders Door and Window Manufacturer’s Warranty. Builders Door and Window reserve the right to limit warranty claims when products that Builders does not recommend are used. STAIN AND CLEAR FINISHESColour Coat / Sealer = Sikkens Cetol 1 with UV protection – available in a number tints Sealant / Top Coat = Sikkens Cetol TGL All products should be well protected from inclement weather, excessive heating and cooling, and humidity, prior to finishing and installation. Builders recommends that products receive at least one factory coat each of Sikkens Cetol 1 and Sikkens TGL. All products must receive an additional onsite brush coat as soon as possible after installation, and preferably 2 coats. Failure to apply the finish coat/s within 6 weeks of delivery and/or installation may void Builders Door and Window Manufacturer’s Warranty. Builders Door and Window has tested and recommends the above products. Sikkens Cetol 1 is applied with a spray technique and back-brushed into the raw wood to saturate and provide adequate sealing. Sikkens Cetol TGL is applied with a spray technique and is available in a satin or gloss finish. A maintenance coat of Cetol TGL should be applied every 2 to 3 years on the sun / weather exposed areas (generally south and west exposures) and every 3 to 4 years on the north and east side facades of the project. Sikkens recommended surface preparation procedures, as specified on their product labels, should be followed prior to any maintenance coats being applied. Additionally, products installed on sites within 1 kilometre of waterfront should receive more frequent maintenance and be monitored for excessive “weathering”, as salt air may affect finish performance.
